Outing Cheney's Daughter
After W's three consecutive debate losses this smacks of desperation, and I love it. However, I want to think that mentioning the lesbian daughter twice during the debates was much more calculated than Team Kerry will admit. Frankly, I didn't think he had that type of fight in him, but it does my heart proud. The Christian Right is Bush's most energized hope for reelection. They're fanatical, not a lot unlike those Muslims waging jihad against the West. And Christians seem to be focused on a single issue in this campaign. They can care less about why we went to war and how many of our kids are dying for 'Bush's mistake near Kuwait’. They can care less about US job losses, health care reform or education. For them this campaign is about protecting their men, boys and daughters from the evils of homosexuality. "Save the family," they cry. Homosexuality is Satan's greatest evil that threatens the world in their eyes. So, how can God, who charged them up for this battle, possibly want them to help elect a family within which a non-procreating, abominable, self-described, lesbian is not only lovingly embraced, but is set out as an example for the rest of the world to see, and possibly emulate? 35 Year old Mary Cheney (hardly a child) and her longtime lover travel her father's campaign together and actually set next to each other at the Republican convention in New York, just up 7th Avenue from Christopher Street, modern day Sodom and Gomorrah if there was one for Christ's sake. The multicolored pride of the Gay Rainbow symbol could almost be seen arching above their heads. And to have them just a heartbeat away from being America's First Family? Yeah, right! Team Kerry knew, just bringing Cheney’s lesbian daughter up would only help to deflate the hot air out of the Onward Christian Soldiers rallying call: "Elect Bush. Save the 'Godly' Family." Or, more likely, "Save us from the sin of Sodom." Well, don't look now, but I believe Lynne Cheney, Mary’s mother, just turned into a pillar of salt, ‘indignant’ she says at the political gamesmanship Team Kerry so deftly applied to conservative chagrin. © Cody Williams 2004 |
